Step into the world of our Luzon bleeding-heart pigeons and unlock the wonders of these extraordinary creatures
The Luzon bleeding-heart, a unique bird species, is endemic to the island of Luzon in the Philippines. These birds display minimal sexual dimorphism, with the males being larger and showcasing a more vibrant red patch compared to the slightly duller patch in females.
Known for their secretive and shy nature, they forage by delicately flicking their bills to turn over soil as they walk. At night, they seek refuge in shrubs and low trees.
Males, being highly territorial, fiercely defend their territory by issuing warning calls and engaging in potentially fatal fights, if necessary. In the face of larger bird predators, the luzon bleeding-heart emits grunting, gasping, or panting sounds.
