From time to time we close off areas of the Zoo to do maintenance work, such is the nature of looking after nature! Additionally, sometimes we move animals around for enrichment or when they are sick. We are always striving to improve the Zoo, and try to confine maintenance to off peak times where we can.
Tigers will be off display from Tuesday February 7 - Thursday February 9. Additionally, due to on-going work at other times this month, tigers will sometimes be a little hard to see. We are regularly moving the tigers around for safety while this work is being done, and it is also a little unsettling for them so they are tending to stay more hidden than usual.
Free Flight Aviary
We are upgrading the doors into the free flight aviary, you can still get through into the aviary, it just means that our team are doing some work around the doors.
African Wild Dogs
Due to enclosure maintenance, the enclosure by the tigers is empty. African Wild Dogs are only visible in their enclosure by the Savannah. Male dog Zumo has joined females Tafari and Msaka in their enclosure. There are no dogs off display, they are all just in the same exhibit rather than in two exhibits.
Other Animal Movements
Giraffe and rhino night yards are not their day exhibits, meaning early morning visitors should go through the rainforest first thing until the animals arrive into their enclosures around 10am. This gives keepers time to service the enclosures.
Depending on the day, our Kune kune pigs may be in their enclosure by the picnic area, however sometimes they are in the paddock grazing next door.
Tapir Mrs Branco is sometimes in with the spider monkeys, sometimes she is in the Kune Kune grazing paddock.
