Little zebra is latest arrival at Hamilton Zoo

There’s another little cutie at Hamilton Zoo, with the birth this week of a baby zebra.
The zebra foal was born on Sunday night, and weighed an estimated 25 kg. The foal – gender currently unknown – is the fourth foal born to mother Mirabai.
Hamilton Zoo Curator Samantha Kudeweh says zoo staff had been expecting the foal to be born this week, and arrived at work on Monday morning to find it strolling around the savannah enclosure.
“We’re very excited to have another healthy, bouncy baby born at the zoo,” Mrs Kudeweh says.
“Mirabai has done a great job and is a fantastic mum. She’s pretty experienced now, as this is her fourth foal. Everything went very smoothly and the baby is already trotting around in the paddock ready to be seen by the public.
“Zebra foals are born ready to go - today has already seen the foal make the acquaintance of the zoo’s giraffe herd, ostrich, waterbuck and blackbuck – plus the neighbouring new bison calf!”
The foal’s arrival boosts Hamilton Zoo’s zebra herd to six.
