The Hamilton Zoo gift shop boasts a fabulous range of gorgeous gift ideas and animal themed trinkets.  We are proud to also offer a selection of beautiful hand-crafted gifts that contribute towards fantastic causes.  In store we currently sell cards made from snares and recycled paper bead jewellery, which are totally made by hand.  Proceeds from the sale of these gifts go towards absolutely worthwhile causes, which you can find out more about below.  They are truly concious gifts.

Economic Alternatives for a Sustainable Future

The Jane Goodall Institute is a global, non-profit organisation, based in Uganda, that empowers people to make a difference for all living things.  Their community-centrered conservation (CCC) approach includes programmes which aim to reduce the illegal commercial bushmeat trade in Central Africa.  They empower local communities with the tools needed to manage their natural resources for long-term economic gain and environmental prosperity.

Snare Intervention Programme

The 'Snare Intervention Programme' sources funds to enable teams of people to patrol the forest and remove snare and man traps, which wound hundreds of chimps every year.  It also funds a specialised veterinary team that rescues and treats those chimps that have been caught in these traps.

goodall4Ugandan Beads

The sale of the Ugandan Beads creates an alternative income for food, medicine, school fees and more.

These handcrafted beads are made from recycled paper which is carefully cut into a triangle, glued, varnished and strung together to make exquisite jewellery with an African flair.
